Coppin St. beats Md-Eastern Shore, 59-54, for 1st conference win

BALTIMORE -- Tywain McKee scored 14 points, Ceslovas
Kucinskas added 13 off the bench and Coppin State beat
Maryland-Eastern Shore, 59-54, for their first league win Monday
night.

Coppin State (5-19, 1-8 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) also
snapped a five-game losing streak and kept Maryland-Eastern Shore
(2-21, 0-8) winless in the conference. In a game that featured 13
lead changes, Coppin State went on a 10-4 run in the final three
minutes to pull away from the Hawks, which have now dropped 12
consecutive games.

Maryland-Eastern Shore also lost despite a huge night by Ed
Tyson, who scored 30 points. Marc Davis also added 11 for
Maryland-Eastern Shore.

Neither team led by any more than five in the first half, but
Antwan Harrison scored six of his 10 points in the final four
minutes to help the Eagles to a 29-27 lead at halftime.
Maryland-Eastern Shore opened the second half on a 20-13 run and
took their biggest lead, 47-42, with 8:33 left.

However, Coppin State continued to force an up-tempo game and
regained the lead, 48-47, on a lay-up by A'Daeron Duncan (four
points) with 6:27 left. A pair of free throws by Tyson cut the
score to 55-51 with 1:33 left. However, four straight points by
Kucinskas quickly put the game the out of reach. Antwan Harrison
also had 11 points for Coppin State.
