ACC team-by-team recruiting needs

As signing day approaches, Heather Dinich takes a look at the recruiting needs of each ACC team:

Boston College Eagles

The Eagles are after a running back and a punter, but two starters and a few key backups on the offensive line also have to be replaced. In addition, they have a need for some defensive backs. Yes, Matt Ryan graduated, but there still are three quarterbacks on the roster. However, it couldn't hurt to add one more.

Clemson Tigers

Replacing four starters -- including both tackles -- on the offensive line is the priority, but the Tigers also need to compensate for the loss of two starting linebackers, Tramaine Billie and Nick Watkins.

Duke Blue Devils

The Blue Devils need more speed in the secondary and could use another quarterback, especially under the direction of first-year coach David Cutcliff. It's imperative that position excels, as Cutcliff's résumé includes mentoring both Peyton and Eli Manning.

Florida State Seminoles

Linemen, linemen, linemen. Those are who the Seminoles are after on both sides of the ball. The only other glaring hole is the one left by the departure of linebacker Geno Hayes.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Linebackers and defensive backs are the emphasis in this year's class. Adding some backs who can really run would be an obvious plus as the Yellow Jackets transition to the option attack favored by first-year coach Paul Johnson.

Maryland Terrapins

The void left by the departures of one-two punch running backs Keon Lattimore and Lance Ball makes the position a concern. The Terps also need linebackers and linemen. Linebacker Erin Henderson's decision to leave early was a big hit.

Miami Hurricanes

The Hurricanes' staff is focused on improving the entire roster, as opposed to zeroing in on certain positions. Still, the top talent in Florida seems to be wide receivers, defensive linemen, linebackers and cornerbacks.

North Carolina Tar Heels

The priority in Chapel Hill is defensive linemen, specifically ends, where Hilee Taylor's departure left a hole. Linebackers also are a priority, since UNC will miss Durell Mapp. In addition, the Tar Heels would like to sign one quarterback, a running back and at least one offensive lineman.

NC State Wolfpack

The Wolfpack need help at just about every position. They lost all three starting linebackers, both starting wide receivers and safety DaJuan Morgan, who left early for the NFL. Go ahead and add linemen to the list, as well.

Virginia Cavaliers

Three starters need to be replaced on the offensive line, and the Cavaliers are always looking for tight ends in their system. And somebody is going to have to compensate for the loss of defensive end Chris Long -- or at least try to.

Virginia Tech Hokies

The Hokies' top targets are wide receivers and linemen. With the departures of Vince Hall and Xavier Adibi, they also need linebackers. But 11 starters from the ACC championship team left, so linebacker isn't the only need position.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons

In a system in which nearly everybody redshirts, the Demon Deacons don't have a recruiting pool, they have a recruiting puddle -- a more narrow focus. They are looking for three to four offensive linemen, one wide receiver, one quarterback, two defensive linemen, a corner, a safety and a few defensive ends.
