Packers' Clifton on Pro Bowl team, but Favre's playing status unknown

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Green Bay Packers offensive tackle Chad Clifton has been added to the NFC Pro Bowl roster, but it's still
not clear whether his quarterback will be with him.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday he doesn't know
whether Brett Favre will play in the Feb. 10 all-star game in
Honolulu.

"I'm not sure where he is on that decision," McCarthy said.

That decision, of course, pales in comparison to the bigger
choice Favre must make this offseason. After a surprising 13-3
regular season that ended with a bitter loss to the New York Giants
in Sunday's NFC Championship game, will Favre return to play next
year?

McCarthy said he spoke with Favre at length on Tuesday before
the three-time MVP headed home to Mississippi. McCarthy advised his
quarterback to take a couple of weeks to take the emotion out of
the decision, then decide what's best for his family.

"We talked about all the reasons why to come back, and some of
the reasons why he wouldn't come back," McCarthy said. "We ran
through that gauntlet, and he's always been very open and
forthcoming with how he feels about every situation."

McCarthy said he and Favre plan to talk every seven to 10 days.

Clifton, an alternate who will replace Seattle's Walter Jones,
will join Packers wide receiver Donald Driver, defensive end Aaron
Kampman and cornerback Al Harris at the Pro Bowl -- along with the
Packers' coaching staff, their consolation prize for losing in the
NFC championship game.

McCarthy said that while the Pro Bowl trip will be enjoyable for
players, coaches and their families, he'd naturally prefer to be
playing in the Super Bowl.

"I don't want to disrespect the Pro Bowl," McCarthy said.
"It'll be exciting when we get there."
