Taos To Open To Snowboarders

TAOS, NM, December 14, 2008—Taos Ski Valley, a pristine mountain destination nestled in the picturesque Sangre de Cristo Mountains of New Mexico, today announced that for the first time it will open the ski area to snowboarders beginning March 19, 2008.

The ski industry's hidden gem was founded by Rhoda and Ernie Blake in 1955 and is still owned and operated by the Blake family. Because of its long family tradition, Taos Ski Valley offers an unparalleled welcome and feeling of community to its visitors. Until now, this tradition included ski-only services. Now, the Blake family is eager to welcome snowboarders in a new era at the mountain.

"We have enjoyed a rich history enhanced by our returning visitors for the last 50 years," said Mickey Blake, Ernie's son and Taos Ski Valley President. "We are now enthusiastically looking forward to sharing our unique, unspoiled mountain with an expanded audience, including snowboarders."

After careful consideration, the Blake family is choosing to expand Taos Ski Valley services to snowboarders. The family will remain committed to offering an intimate, low-key approach, with an emphasis on the pure mountain experience.

"The time is right for skiers and riders to share the slopes here at Taos Ski Valley," said Adriana Blake, Ernie Blake's granddaughter and Taos Ski Valley Marketing Manager. "At the end of the day, it's not important how our visitors get down the mountain, as long as we can all enjoy this special place."

The snowboarding launch with be celebrated with numerous activities for skier and rider visitors to enjoy together. "The festivities will be a show of appreciation to our loyal visitors and a warm welcome to our new guests," said Alejandro Blake, Taos Ski Valley Events Director. "The week of exciting events will be a great way to kick off this new era at Taos Ski Valley."

During the summer of 2008, Taos Ski Valley will initiate resort renovations to improve rental facilities and the base area to accommodate both skiers and riders. Taos Ski Valley will close for the season April 6, 2008.
