Sam Houston St. 79, Hardin-Simmons 41

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) -- Ryan Bright's double-double helped lead Sam Houston State to a 79-41 win over Hardin-Simmons Thursday night.

Bright had 15 points, 12 rebounds and six assists in only 17 minutes for the undefeated Bearkats (6-0). John Gardiner was the only other player in double figures, with 10 points, for Sam Houston State, who broke to a 41-17 first-half lead and emptied the bench.

Jean Mardochee scored 10 points and had eight rebounds to lead the Cowboys (1-2). Marcus Smith added nine points for Hardin-Simmons.

Sam Houston State shot 52 percent for the game to Hardin-Simmons' 26 percent. The Bearkats also dominated the boards, 53-22 over the Cowboys.

The Bearkats' 6-0 record is the team's best start since 1980.
