Charges dropped for Kentucky fans who rushed field after win

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Kentucky fans who swarmed the field after
the Wildcats upset then-No. 1 LSU have had trespassing charges
against them dismissed.

University spokesman Jay Blanton said university officials
expressed their desire not to go forward with the cases, and
Fayette County prosecutors dropped the charges this week.

Several people were charged after jumping down and onto the
Commonwealth Stadium field to celebrate after the Oct. 13
triple-overtime game. It was the first time since 1964 that the
Wildcats had beaten a top-ranked team.

Blanton said Thursday night that since there was no injury or
property damage in the celebration, the university had no interest
in pursuing charges.

The university was fined $50,000 for violating a Southeastern
Conference prohibition of fans on the field. It was the team's
third violation, with earlier fines of $5,000 after Kentucky beat
Georgia last season and $25,000 after the Wildcats defeated
Louisville this season.
