NEW YORK -- Rick Hendrick let out a couple of secrets Wednesday at the annual luncheon with the championship team at the 21 Club restaurant.
Well, maybe calling them secrets is a little overstating it. But the Nextel Cup team owner did reveal some interesting tidbits about two-time champion Jimmie Johnson's two favorite people -- wife Chandra and crew chief Chad Knaus.
For example, Knaus has a new car, and it isn't a Chevrolet.
"I remember what crew chiefs made back in the day," Hendrick said. "But I just got a phone call a few minutes ago from Chad. He stopped and bought a Maserati, so I guess things are at a new level."
Hendrick got into the spirit of things for NASCAR Banquet Week in Manhattan, typically a good time to learn some unusual information that isn't readily available on a race weekend.
He also revealed why Chandra loves coming to New York.
"The best thing about it for Channi is she got her fingernails done," Hendrick said. "When she was sitting on the pit box the last few races we were making each other nervous. And she chewed those nails down to the nub."
