Santa Clara 77, Sacramento St. 65

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Behind junior John Bryant's 26 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocked shots, Santa Clara overcame a nine-point deficit in the second half to beat Sacramento State 77-65 on Sunday afternoon.

Brody Angley added 16 points and eight assists, and Calvin Johnson had 11 points and two steals for the Broncos (4-1), who played Sac State for the first time in school history. Bryant, a 6-foot-10, 305-pound center, was 12-for-15 from the floor.

Loren Leath had 21 points, Donald Thomas added 12 points and Vinnie McGhee scored 11 and dished out six assists for the Hornets (1-5).

Trailing 51-42 with less than 12 minutes left in the second half, the Broncos came back on a fast-paced 21-2 run that was completed with a lay up by Mitch Henke to make the score 63-53. The Hornets failed to get closer than eight points before the game ended.

The Hornets had their biggest lead in the first half when Randy Adams' basket made the score 29-23 with 2:09 remaining. Sac State led 29-25 at halftime.
