Creighton 74, Nebraska 62

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Dane Watts and Cavel Witter scored 14 points apiece and Creighton withstood Nebraska's comeback attempt from a 27-point halftime deficit to defeat the Cornhuskers 74-62 on Saturday.

The Bluejays (3-0) used a smothering full-court defense to force 17 first-half turnovers, and they rode a 24-3 run to a 47-20 lead. But the Huskers (3-1) turned over the ball only four times after that and cut the lead to single digits.

Creighton hit 9 of its first 13 3-pointers, six in the first half.

Nebraska rallied behind guards Cookie Miller and Steve Harley to pull within nine after a 32-14 surge to open the second half.

The Bluejays built their lead back to 15 points when Witter drove past Husker center Aleks Maric for a reverse layup, then stole a Maric pass at the other end and drove in for another basket.

Witter scored 10 of his 14 points in the second half.

Miller led all scorers with 19 points, and Harley had all 14 of his points after halftime.

Nebraska leads the all-time series with Creighton 23-18, but the Bluejays have won eight of the last nine regular-season meetings between the state's only Division I programs.
