the world: * Italian league chief Antonio Matarrese has survived a vote
of no confidence by three votes, Italian media reported. Clubs in Serie B, upset at a new television deal, had
brought a motion against Matarrese at an extraordinary meeting.
He lost the vote 27 to 13 but 30 votes were needed to remove
him. *Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie has ruled manager
Harry Redknapp out of the running to become the next England
coach. Speaking on Sky Sport News Storrie said: "As far as we're
concerned, we wouldn't give them (the FA) permission to talk to
him. "Harry's just signed a new contract with us, he's very
happy, we've got a successful team, fantastic season and we're
concentrating on that." * Experienced Sampdora striker Vincenzo Montella must
undergo knee surgery, the club Web site said (www.sampdoria.it),
and now looks set to be out for two months. *France striker Sylvain Wiltord will return for Stade Rennes
when they host leaders Olympique Lyon on Saturday, the team from
Brittany said. The former Lyon forward has not played for a
month because of a calf injury. * Five Serie A players have aired an anti-violence music
video on television ahead of Catania's home game with Sicilian
rivals Palermo on Dec. 2. A policeman was killed during riots outside last season's
