Soccer-Wuppertaler knock out Hertha Berlin in German Cup shock

By Kevin Fylan

BERLIN, Oct 30 - Wuppertaler SV of the regional
third division beat Hertha Berlin 2-0 on Tuesday to knock the
Bundesliga side out in the second round of the German Cup.

Hertha had Josip Simunic sent off in the 75th minute and
fell behind to a Sven Lintjens strike six minutes later.

The visitors poured forward in search of an equaliser before
Wuppertaler sealed an unlikely victory when Tim Jerat struck
from the edge of the area four minutes from time.

VfL Bochum, who finished with nine men, were also casualties
from the Bundesliga, as they lost 3-2 at second division
Alemannia Aachen.

Hansa Rostock had a far more comfortable evening against
division two opposition, winning 6-0 at home to Kickers
Offenbach.

Schalke 04 needed extra time to win 2-0 at home to Hanover
96, with an own goal from Hanover keeper Robert Enke in the 97th
minute and a Kevin Kuranyi strike in the 119th.

Wolfsburg won 1-0 at Karlsruhe with a goal from Ashkan
Dejagah in the night's other all-Bundesliga clash.

Bayern Munich, the 13-times German Cup winners, are in
action in one of the eight remaining ties on Wednesday, at home
to second division leaders Borussia Moenchengladbach.
