Elon 24, Wofford 13

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Scott Riddle threw for 343 yards and three touchdowns to lead Elon past Wofford 24-13 in Southern Conference action Saturday.

Riddle was 41-of-51 for the Phoenix (5-2, 3-1 SoCon), who had a total of 442 yards.

The Terriers (6-2, 3-1) were undone by three fumbles and an interception -- all in the second half. Wofford was led by Kevious Johnson with 129 yards rushing.

The Phoenix wasted little time on their first drive, going 94 yards in just eight plays capped by a 34-yard Riddle scoring pass to Terrell Hudgins.

After forcing a Wofford punt, Elon put together another scoring drive that ended in a 9-yard Riddle pass to Michael Mayers for a 14-0 lead with 3:21 left in the first quarter.

An onside kick attempt by Elon was recovered by the Terriers who converted on two fourth downs and scored on a Josh Collier 10-yard keeper to cut the Elon lead to 14-7. Wofford scored again early in the second quarter on a 3-yard run by Michael Hobbs, but a missed extra point gave Elon a 14-13 edge.

Elon got on the board again late in the third on a 35-yard field goal by Andrew Wilcox and shut down the Terriers by forcing turnovers the rest of the way. The Phoenix converted one fumble into points when Hudgins caught a 1-yard toss from Riddle.
