Classic Field Shaping Up

The field for the 2008 Bassmaster Classic on South Carolina's Lake Hartwell is taking shape. Forty of the 50 qualifiers have already been determined. Now we're waiting on the 6 Federation Nation qualifiers, the Weekend Series qualifier and 3 anglers from the Southern Opens. The latter group will be determined this weekend at the Southern Open finale on Wheeler Lake in Alabama.

That tournament begins today, and right now the three anglers atop the points standings are Terry Scroggins, Charlie Hartley and Mark Davis.

Scroggins and Hartley are Elite Series pros, and Scroggins has already earned a berth in the 2008 Classic by finishing fourth in Bassmaster Angler of the Year points race. He's also sitting atop the Southern Open standings by virtue of having won the first two events of the three-event season. In March he won on Florida's Lake Kissimmee, and in May he went back-to-back with a win on South Carolina's Santee Cooper lakes.
