Around Apte's world

Most of us know our local lakes, rivers and flats like the backs of our hands.

But we at ESPNOutdoors.com got to thinking about all the awesome places in the world to fish: If you had a million bucks to blow on travel, but you could only fish 10 places in the world the rest of your life, where would they be?

That's what we asked one expert, and the answers were as diverse as king salmon is to a carp.

Stu Apte started fly-fishing all over the world in the 1950's, when he was a pilot for Pan Am Airways. The baritone-voiced 77-year-old has lived and breathed fishing ever since.

He's set 44 saltwater world records, invented the Stu Apte Tarpon Fly, Apte Improved Blood Knot and has contributed more than about anyone else to the development of modern fishing gear that we use everyday.

The International Fishing Hall of Fame inductee and Florida Keys resident has fished on every continent but Antarctica in his five-plus decades of serious angling.

We figured he's pretty well qualified in the fish tales department.

That's why we asked for his top 10 picks, in no particular order, from best to pretty-darn-near-the-best places in the world to fish.
