Bedard gets two years' probation for child custody order violation

QUEBEC -- Former Olympic biathlon champion Myriam Bedard
received two years' probation for violating a child custody order
involving her daughter.

She also got a conditional discharge, meaning she will not have
a criminal record. The 37-year-old woman faced a maximum sentence
of 10 years in prison.

Bedard said she needs to go abroad for work and she also wants
to travel with her 12-year-old daughter. Bedard was charged after
she went to the United States with the girl last October without
the consent of the father and stayed there nearly three months.
