Player Tracker: Marshall up, Johnson down

Rising

Brandon Marshall, WR, Broncos: Off the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list and now practicing with the first team. Really nice sleeper here as he seemed to connect with Jay Cutler toward the end of last year, getting 11 receptions in his last three games. My guess is he's the No. 2, beating out Brandon Stokley and taking full advantage of all the double teams on Javon Walker.

Frank Gore, RB, 49ers: Head coach Mike Nolan told the Santa Rosa Press Democrat that Gore would be getting the goal-line carries this year. He didn't get them all last year because of the fumble problem (no running back in the NFL had more) so this is good news. As long as he doesn't fumble away the opportunity.

Marcedes Lewis, TE, Jaguars: Reports in the local papers say Lewis is really impressing in camp and should win the job. Tight end is deep this year, so Lewis isn't really draftable except in a deep league or a league where you play two tight ends. (I'm guessing there's at least one crazy league out there like that).

Falling

Rudi Johnson, RB, Bengals: The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Johnson missed practice Thursday afternoon due to an injury to his foot. No word on how serious it is, so it might not be anything, but any time there's an injury relating to feet on a running back, it's worth noting. Kenny Watson just showed up on your draft lists.

Kevin Jones, RB, Lions: Now he's going to miss the first six weeks of the season. And I wouldn't be shocked if it was more. I'm not crazy about Tatum Bell, but on the other hand, he's all they've got.

LenDale White, RB, Titans: Now he's going to miss the second Titans preseason game as he is still banged up. This is why I keep talking about Chris Henry. He's not good, but at least he's healthy. And that's more than we can say for White. And Chris Brown should be out with an injury any day now …
