Soccer-Gerrard to undergo ankle examination to determine damage

LONDON, Aug 16 - Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard
will have his right ankle examined by club medical staff on
Thursday before any decision can be made on his availability to
face Chelsea in the Premier League at the weekend.

The influential midfielder picked up the painful knock to
his ankle during Liverpool's 1-0 win at Toulouse in their
Champions League third round qualifier on Wednesday.

He was substituted after 61 minutes of the first leg match.

"We will not know how Steven is until he has been seen by
the medical team and the doctor," Liverpool manager Rafael
Benitez told BBC Radio.

"I was replacing him because we needed fresh legs, not
because of the injury, but we do not know yet how he is."
