Guys displaying surprising power

After watching Jack Cust hit his 19th and 20th homers last night, it occurred to me that he must be the A's leading home run hitter. I was right, and that got me wondering about the most unlikely players who are currently leading their team in homers.

Turns out there really aren't that many surprises. I wanted to make a top-five list, and it turns there are only five real surprises. In rough order of surprising-ness:

1. Cust (20 homers): You were expecting somebody else? Cust is surprising for any number of reasons. He's 28, and prior to this season he'd hit exactly five home runs in the majors. He opened this season in the minors and didn't play his first game with the A's until the 6th of May.
