Tennis-Murray eyes U.S. Open after winning return from injury

By Simon Cambers

MONTREAL, Aug 7 - Andy Murray said he was
confident of being fully fit for the U.S. Open after making a
successful comeback from a 12-week injury absence at the
Montreal Masters on Tuesday.

The young Briton, who had not played since May after
tearing tendons in his right wrist, was too good for American
Robby Ginepri, coming through their first-round match 6-4 6-4.

"The physio and the doctor said I'm not going to reinjure
it," Murray said. "It's just one of those things that you have
to deal with when you're playing.

"Each match, I'm sure the pain will get less and less. The
more confidence I get on it, it should be fine in a few weeks.
My priority is to be ready for the U.S. Open."

Murray was careful not to go for much power on his
forehand, choosing mainly to chip and block while opening up on
the backhand side.

After trading breaks at the start of the match, Murray
broke world number 58 Ginepri in the ninth game before serving
out for the opening set.

The Scot then fell 3-0 down in the second set but with
Ginepri making too many errors, he reeled off five consecutive
games to lead 5-3, before serving out two games later for
victory.

If Murray beats Italian qualifier Fabio Fognini in the
second round, he could meet world number one Roger Federer in
the last 16, but the Scot said his goals were much simpler.

"I just want to play some matches and get ready for the
U.S. Open. I just want to get my match fitness back and hope my
wrist gets better every single day."

The U.S. Open starts on Aug. 27.
