RALEIGH, N.C. -- Raffi Torres' stint in the Carolina Hurricanes' training camp is over.
The physical left winger was one of nine players dropped from the Hurricanes' roster Thursday, a day before their final exhibition game against Washington.
Carolina invited Torres to camp on a professional tryout, with general manager Ron Francis in August defending the decision as a low-risk move.
Torres hasn't played a regular-season game in the NHL since 2013-14. He was suspended last October for 41 games -- the longest suspension in NHL history for a hit on another player -- and fined $440,000 for his illegal check on Anaheim's Jakob Silfverberg during a preseason game.
Torres didn't serve any penalty minutes in two preseason games this year.
The moves leave the Hurricanes with a 32-man roster.
