Blues' Jaden Schwartz diagnosed with elbow injury

NHL, St. Louis Blues

ST. LOUIS -- Blues forward Jaden Schwartz will miss at least a month after hurting his left elbow in practice.

The Blues announced the timetable on Schwartz's return Friday, a day after he was injured in training camp.

"It could be a lot worse," coach Ken Hitchcock said Friday. "We've got two weeks of training camp left, so he won't miss many games. With an injury like that, it could be nothing or it could be surgery, you don't know.... The nice part is, he's going to be in shape because it's not going to affect his skating. He'll be in cardio shape and can hit the ground running.

"We're not going to play many games without him, maybe five, six, (or) seven -- and we can certainly do that."

Schwartz has played five seasons in the NHL. He is coming off an injury-shortened season in which he missed 49 games because of a broken left ankle. He had eight goals and 14 assists in 33 games and added four goals and 10 assists in 20 playoff games.

Overall, he has 70 goals and 87 assists in 240 career regular-season games.

The Blues re-signed Schwartz to a five-year, $26.75 million contract in July.
