NHL, Pittsburgh Penguins

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed forward Matt Cullen to a one-year, $1 million contract on Wednesday for his 20th NHL season.

The 39-year-old Cullen helped the Penguins win the Stanley Cup last season.

Cullen, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, had 16 goals and 16 assists in 82 games last season. He added four goals and two assists in 24 playoff games, including two game winners.

Cullen has 235 goals and 423 assists in 1,294 regular-season games with Anaheim, Florida, Carolina, the New York Rangers, Ottawa, Minnesota, Nashville and Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh will return most of its Stanley Cup-winning team. Defenseman Ben Lovejoy and third-string goalie Jeff Zatkoff left via free agency, and Beau Bennett was traded to New Jersey in June.
