The defending Stanley Cup champions and the defending Presidents' Trophy winners both play their ice hockey in the NHL's Eastern Conference, but there are 14 other teams looking to knock them off those perches.

Now that dust has settled from the NHL draft and the free-agent frenzy, it's possible to take a clear look at each team's plans for the upcoming season. While some front offices appear to be taking greater risks than others, there's at least one big question for each team, as well as some metrics that can help provide a few answers.
