Coyotes to bring back Radim Vrbata

NHL, Arizona Coyotes

The Arizona Coyotes have signed veteran winger Radim Vrbata, a longtime member of the franchise, to a one-year deal, the team announced Tuesday.

Vrbata, 35, hit the 20-goal mark four times as a member of the Coyotes and will earn a base salary of $1 million plus incentives under the terms of this new deal, a source told ESPN on Monday.

In a news release Tuesday, Coyotes general manager John Chayka called Vrbata "a proven goal scorer who will add skill and smarts to our lineup."

The Czech Republic native had a career-best 35 goals with the Coyotes in 2011-12. He played the past two seasons with Vancouver and was an unrestricted free agent.

Arizona recently bought out the final year of the contract of center Antoine Vermette, who had $3.75 million left on his deal. The Vrbata signing gives the team more scoring depth from the right side and continued cap flexibility.

Vrbata was originally selected with the 212th overall draft pick in 1999 by the Colorado Avalanche.
