The Stars' defense is an Achilles' heel, and may prevent a playoff run

NHL, Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars had a triumphant 2015-16 season where they vaulted up the standings by 17 points and secured the division crown for the first time in a decade. However, unanswered questions on the blue line could slide them right back out of the playoffs for the seventh time in nine seasons.

The greatest pity about this team's poor defensive play is that it could squander the NHL's greatest offense. Last season, the Stars led the league with 267 goals and featured three of the 28 players to score 30 goals: Jamie Benn (41), Tyler Seguin (33), and Jason Spezza (33). The Stars undoubtedly have the firepower to beat any team on any given night -- if they can keep the puck out of their own net.
