Leafs sign Morgan Rielly, Nazem Kadri to 6-year extensions

NHL, Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed two of their best young players to long-term extensions Wednesday.

Defenseman Morgan Rielly, 22, and forward Nazem Kadri, 25, both signed six-year extensions with the Maple Leafs.

Financial terms of the deals weren't disclosed, but a source told ESPN's Pierre LeBrun that Rielly's contract is worth $5 million per season while Kadri's averages $4.5 million.

Rielly had a career-best 36 points this season, playing in all 82 games. He has 92 points (19 goals, 73 assists) in 236 regular-season games for the Leafs since 2013-14. He was the fifth overall selection of the 2012 draft.

Kadri led the Leafs in points this season with 45, registering 17 goals and 28 assists in 76 games. He has 197 points (81 goals, 116 assists) in 326 career games, all with the Leafs since the team selected him seventh overall in 2009.
