Borowiecki leaves game with facial laceration

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Mark Borowiecki has left the Ottawa Senators' game at Columbus with a facial cut that left a pool of blood on the ice.

The team says Borowiecki has an upper-body injury and he will not return to the game Saturday night.

Borowiecki's feet and stick got tangled with those of Columbus' Brandon Saad while the two battled for possession near the boards by Ottawa's goal. After Saad took possession, Borowiecki's momentum caused him to lose his balance and careen face first into the board.

After slamming to a stop, Borowiecki lied motionless for roughly two minutes. Once trainers tended to him, the defenseman skated off under his own power while holding a towel across his face.

As he walked to the locker room, Borowiecki briefly waved to the crowd.

In 56 games this season before Saturday, Borowiecki has one goal and one assist.
