Horvat scores twice, Canucks beat Hurricanes 3-2

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Bo Horvat scored his second goal of the game with 1:06 left to give the Vancouver Canucks a 3-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday night.

Sven Baertschi added a goal and an assist for the Canucks, and Jacob Markstrom stopped 26 shots in his sixth straight start with Ryan Miller out injured.

Jordan Staal had a goal and an assist, and John-Michael Liles also scored for Carolina. Eddie Lack made 18 saves for the Hurricanes in his return to Vancouver.

Horvat, who had gone 27 games without a goal before scoring Monday night in a home loss to Arizona, took a pass from Baertschi on a late power play after Carolina defenseman Jaccob Slavin was whistled for delay of game.

Horvat gave Vancouver a 2-1 at 7:15 of the third by swooping in on Lack.

A fan favorite in Vancouver before getting dealt to Carolina when the Canucks decided to go with Miller and Markstrom, Lack stopped Horvat on three great scoring chances in the first period.

Staal tied it a 2 with 8 minutes left in the third, jumping on a loose puck off a broken play.

After registering just two shots in the first, the Hurricanes put in a much better effort in the middle period and grabbed the lead short-handed at 8:02.

Staal stole the puck at the Carolina blue line and moved into the Vancouver zone before feeding Liles, whose weak shot fluttered under Markstrom's glove.

The Canucks got that one back with 2:21 left in the second by catching the Hurricanes on a bad line change. Adam Cracknell floated a pass up to Baertschi and he beat Lack over the glove.
