Bruins' Dennis Seidenberg set for back surgery, to miss eight weeks

BOSTON -- Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg will have surgery Thursday to repair a lumbar spine disk herniation and will be sidelined approximately eight weeks, the team announced Wednesday.

Dr. Louis Jenis will perform the lumbar microdiscectomy at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Seidenberg suffered the injury during an offseason workout. He did not participate in the first week of training camp.

The 34-year-old blueliner played in all 82 games for the Bruins last season. He was limited to 34 games during the 2013-14 season due to a knee injury.
