Former NFL quarterback Vince Young, who signed with the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders earlier this year, will miss the start of the 2017 season after tearing his hamstring, coach Chris Jones told reporters Monday.
Jones told reporters that Young is expected to miss four to six weeks with the injury. The Roughriders open their season June 22.
Young suffered the injury last Tuesday and sat out the Roughriders' preseason game against Winnipeg on Saturday.
"It's disappointing that we didn't get to see him in the preseason game because that's the easier time to evaluate him in a real game situation," Jones told reporters.
Jones said it didn't look like Young was running hard when the injury happened.
"Then when we had the MRI in Toronto the other day it was actually torn. It was a lot worse than we envisioned," he told reporters.
Young, 34, signed a two-year contract with a second-year option with the Roughriders in March.
He hasn't played in an NFL regular-season game since 2011, with the Philadelphia Eagles. He announced his retirement after being released by the Cleveland Browns in 2014.
