Bridgewater workouts increase, but no timetable for his return yet

NFL, Minnesota Vikings

PHOENIX -- Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has intensified his knee rehab by running in a pool and working on land, coach Mike Zimmer said.

A timetable for Bridgewater's return from a torn ACL and dislocated left knee, however, doesn't exist.

"I honestly have no idea," said Zimmer when asked whether Bridgewater can play in 2017. "I saw Teddy in the training room a week or so ago. He's in great spirits, working hard, doing all the things necessary. There's no timetable. I keep getting asked these questions but when he's ready, he's ready."

Bridgewater also is working on an AlterG machine and spends one week a month in Minnesota. The rest of the month is spent in Miami, with team trainer Eric Sugarman making trips to oversee the rehab.

The Vikings are set with Sam Bradford at quarterback, and Zimmer hinted at adding a quarterback through the draft or free agency, but when Bridgewater is healthy, "we'll adjust," Zimmer said.

Bridgewater, a former first-round pick, started two seasons for Minnesota before suffering the gruesome injury in 2016 training camp.

"He's getting to where his range of motion is good, he's starting to move more, strengthening the leg," Zimmer said. "It was a rough injury. I'm sure there's more land work he's going to do."

When asked if he trusts Bridgewater to follow rehab while in Miami, Zimmer said, "100 percent."
