Sources: Lawrence Timmons will get $11M guaranteed from Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins announced the signing of linebacker Lawrence Timmons on Friday. The durable veteran got a two-year, $12 million deal that includes $11 million guaranteed, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

After a sluggish 2015 campaign, Timmons boosted his profile last season with 114 tackles, 2.5 sacks and two interceptions with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Playing about five pounds lighter helped Timmons stay on the field on passing downs, which was an issue the previous year.

Timmons, 30, is no longer the rangy athlete he was coming out of Florida State as the first draft pick of the time in which Mike Tomlin has been coach. But he's a big hitter who can stop the run, rush the passer and make calls from the defensive huddle.

Timmons has 981 career tackles, 35.5 sacks and 12 interceptions in 10 NFL seasons.
