Veteran cornerback Perrish Cox signs with Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have signed veteran cornerback Perrish Cox.

The terms of his contract were not readily available.

Cox, 30, started 22 games for the Tennessee Titans over the past two seasons, but they released him in November.

"If you don't perform at the level that we ask, then we are going to find someone who does," Titans coach Mike Mularkey said after Cox was released.

"You've got to do it how we would like it, and sometimes that wasn't always the case and sometimes that's just lack of confidence in trusting the system. You've got to trust what we're telling you, and that's what we want."

Cornerback became a need for the Seahawks after DeShawn Shead suffered a left knee injury in the divisional-round loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Coach Pete Carroll said Shead tore the ACL and suffered additional damage, putting his status for the start of next season in question. Shead started 15 games for the Seahawks and is a restricted free agent this offseason.

Cox is a seven-year veteran and has started 45 games in his career. He spent part of 2013 with the Seahawks and appeared in two games before the team released him.

Cox began his career with the Denver Broncos in 2010. He was accused of sexual assault during his time in Denver but was acquitted of charges during a trial in 2012.

Cox likely will be competing for a roster spot with the Seahawks next summer.
