Titans RB Murray might need surgery on toe injury

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Titans running back DeMarco Murray, who led the AFC in rushing yards, could eventually need surgery to repair a toe injury he suffered in Week 8.

Murray said he suffered a torn plantar plate Oct. 27 in a Thursday night win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The plate is the ligament on the ball of the foot connected to the toe.

He said the injury impacted his ability to plant and explode.

"It's not an excuse -- you've just got to keep going," Murray said. "But yeah, it as a deal where I couldn't do what I was normally doing, not at a higher level, but I was fine."

Murray said rest is the assigned treatment for the toe now.

"I'll rest it and I'll come back and we'll see what steps we need to take," he said. "The best things for it is just rest and then we'll reconvene when it's appropriate.

"If it feels good after some time, I think we'll skip the surgery. If not, I think it's something that Todd [Toriscelli, Titans director of sports medicine] and those guys will have to decide, and we'll come up with a game plan. It all depends on how I feel after a couple weeks."

Murray said he hopes to play in the Pro Bowl on Jan. 29 in Orlando, Florida.

In other Titans injury news, coach Mike Mularkey said quarterback Marcus Mariota, who had surgery Dec. 28 to repair his broken fibula with a plate, will use his scooter for eight weeks before he is allowed to put weight on the leg.
