A.J. Green out vs. Steelers, per source

NFL, Cincinnati Bengals

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green, who is listed as doubtful with a hamstring injury, will not play Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a source told ESPN's Bob Holtzman.

The tentative plan is for Green to return on Dec. 24 in Houston, the source said.

Green was injured Nov. 20 against the Buffalo Bills when he hit the ground trying to make a catch early in the game. Sunday's contest against the Steelers will be the fourth straight he will miss, but the injury is not as bad as initially feared.

He said two weeks ago that he will play it safe with his return.

"I want to get back, no matter what kind of season we're having," Green said. "I'm not the type of guy to pack it in. Whenever I'm ready, I'll be ready to go, but I'm not going to rush it and have this as a continuing issue."

Before the injury, Green was having one of the best seasons of his career, with 964 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He is 36 yards away from his sixth 1,000-yard receiving season. If he returns next week and reaches 1,000 yards, he would join Randy Moss as the only receivers to have 1,000-yard seasons in each of their first six years.
