Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles has arthroscopic surgery on left knee

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Monday.

The surgery was performed by orthopedic surgeon James Andrews.

Charles, who had been experiencing pain in both knees, was placed on the injured reserve list on Nov. 1. Andrews performed arthroscopic knee surgery on the right knee around that time.

"We anticipate the recovery will be fine,'' Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder said. "We'll see how it goes.''

Charles tore the ACL in his right knee in a game in October 2015. He returned last month and played in three games as a backup before the pain in his knees forced him out of the lineup.
