Lions CB Darius Slay out with hamstring injury

DETROIT -- The Lions lost their best cornerback for at least the rest of Sunday's game against Washington.

Darius Slay went down midway through the second quarter clutching his hamstring on a non-contact play. After slowly walking off the field, he was briefly looked at on the training table before heading to the locker room.

Slay was then ruled out for the rest of the early in the second half and was on the sidelines in street clothes.

After the Lions' 20-17 win, Lions coach Jim Caldwell said he did not yet have an update on Slay.

Without Slay, who signed a four-year, $50.2 million deal in training camp, the Lions are thin at cornerback. Johnson Bademosi, who Detroit signed from Cleveland in the offseason as mostly a special teams standout, took over for Slay in the lineup.

Washington immediately went at Bademosi, completing a 14-yard pass from Kirk Cousins to Jamison Crowder.

Detroit has struggled with defensive injuries throughout the year. The Lions lost star defensive end Ezekiel Ansah for three weeks earlier this season with an ankle injury, and they haven't had their best linebacker, DeAndre Levy, since after Week 1 with quad and knee injuries.

Haloti Ngata, the team's top defensive tackle, has missed the past two games with a shoulder injury.
