Redskins' DeSean Jackson held out of practice with knee, ankle issues

NFL, Washington Redskins

ASHBURN, Va., -- Washington Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson did not practice Wednesday because of a knee and ankle issue, suffered Sunday in the loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Redskins coach Jay Gruden said he's not sure yet what Jackson's status will be the rest of the week or for the game Sunday at the New York Giants. Jackson hurt himself in the third quarter of the 27-23 loss, but remained in the game and caught three passes for 40 yards.

"What [the] expectations are, I have no idea," Gruden said. "It depends on how he's feeling tomorrow and the next day. Hopefully he'll be OK."

If Jackson can't play, it would impact the Redskins' passing attack. Not only does he provide big play potential -- he has had gains of 38 and 33 in the first two games -- but his presence also opens up areas for teammates.

Against the Cowboys, two Dallas defenders ran with him, leaving rookie receiver Josh Doctson wide open downfield for a 57-yard gain. In three games vs. the Giants since joining the Redskins, Jackson has caught a combined six passes for 90 yards and a touchdown.
