Seahawks release veteran DB Brandon Browner

NFL, Seattle Seahawks

RENTON, Wash. -- TheĀ Seattle Seahawks' experiment with moving Brandon Browner to safety is over.

The team has cut the five-year veteran.

Browner signed a one-year, $760,000 deal back in the spring, but the contract contained no guaranteed money.

He had made the switch from cornerback to safety this offseason, and Pete Carroll talked about using Browner in specific matchup situations. But the 31-year-old Browner had a quiet training camp and preseason.

Meanwhile, other options emerged at safety for the Seahawks such as undrafted free agent Tyvis Powell.

Browner, an original member of the Legion of Boom, played three seasons for the Seahawks from 2011 to 2013.

He spent 2014 with the New England Patriots and last year with the New Orleans Saints before returning to Seattle.
