Terrell Suggs returns to practice

NFL, Baltimore Ravens

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs was activated off the physically unable to perform list Monday and participated in his first practice since tearing his Achilles 11 months ago.

The Ravens hinted that Suggs was close to returning, and Suggs told coach John Harbaugh last week that he was "holding him back right now."

Suggs, 33, tore his left Achilles in last season's opener in Denver and was finished for the season. It was Suggs' second Achilles injury in four seasons; he tore the right one in 2012.

The 2011 NFL defensive player of the year, Suggs has recorded double-digit sacks in the last four full seasons he has played.

The Ravens still have four players on the PUP list: wide receivers Steve Smith Sr. and Breshad Perriman, linebacker Elvis Dumervil and running back Lorenzo Taliaferro.

Harbaugh indicated last week that he expected all of them to be ready for the Sept. 11 season opener against the Buffalo Bills.
