Giants won't play Eli Manning in preseason opener

NFL, New York Giants, Miami Dolphins

RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Quarterback Eli Manning won't play in the New York Giants' preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins.

Coach Ben McAdoo announced the decision Friday morning, hours before the game at MetLife Stadium.

McAdoo, who is in his first season as the Giants coach after spending the past two as their offensive coordinator, says he knows what Manning can do.

Ryan Nassib, who has thrown 10 passes in his first three seasons with the Giants, will start.

Receiver Victor Cruz, linebacker Keenan Robinson and defensive end Kerry Wynn will not play for the Giants because of groin injuries.

The Dolphins had their own surprise for the game with first-year coach Adam Gase resting his entire defense line -- ends Cameron Wake and Mario Williams and tackles Ndamukong Suh and Earl Mitchell. Veteran free agent running back Arian Foster and starting receiver DeVante Parker also will not play.
