METAIRIE, La. -- Yet another veteran has hopped onto the New Orleans Saints' kicker carousel.
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Connor Barth is on his way to New Orleans to sign with the Saints, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Barth, 30, will compete with incumbent Kai Forbath. If Barth wins the job, he will become the Saints' 11th kicker in 11 years.
Barth auditioned for the Saints during their three-day rookie minicamp last weekend, and they apparently liked what they saw.
They released another veteran, Josh Scobee, on Tuesday -- just two months after they signed him.
"He's hit the ball out here well," Saints coach Sean Payton said of Barth during rookie minicamp. "When we have a chance to bring in a guy who's been in our division, someone that we feel like has kicked well, (the tryout gives us) a first-hand look.
"It's a chance to look at another talented player for three days. And that's a position that's maybe a little easier than the others to evaluate in this scenario."
Barth made 23 of 28 field goal attempts and 25 of 26 extra points for the Buccaneers last season after he re-signed with the team in October. He was released earlier this month after Tampa Bay traded up to draft Florida State's Roberto Aguayo in the second round.
Barth has made 84.8 percent of his field goals in his career with the Kansas City Chiefs (2008), Buccaneers (2009-2012, 2015) and Denver Broncos (2014).
The Saints used two kickers in 2015, signing Forbath as a midseason replacement after first-year pro Zach Hocker struggled. Forbath made 9 of 13 field goal attempts for the Saints, including a game-winning 50-yarder against the New York Giants in Week 8. He made 33 of 34 extra point attempts.
