Source: Colts, K Adam Vinatieri agree to 2-year, $6M extension

NFL, Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts have agreed to a two-year, $6 million contract extension with 43-year-old kicker Adam Vinatieri, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The deal includes $1 million guaranteed.

"We are thrilled to retain Adam as a member of the Colts family," Colts general manager Ryan Grigson said in a statement announcing the extension. "Adam continues to play at the highest level year in and year out and his hard work, consistency and professionalism are a credit to him being the longest tenured active player in the NFL. Adam has won multiple Super Bowls and is a future Hall of Famer. We look forward to continuing to utilize his championship-pedigree and leadership in our program."

Vinatieri looked like he was slowing down at age 42 when he missed his first two field goals of the season. Those ended up being his only two misses in 2015, and he made his final 25 attempts.

He said at the end of the season that he wanted to continue playing as long as he felt like he could help a team.

In his past two seasons, Vinatieri is 55-of-58 on field goals, including 7-of-8 on kicks from at least 50 yards, and 82-of-85 on extra points.

Vinatieri, the oldest player in the NFL, sits atop the active lists for points scored (2,253) and field goals made (503). A three-time Pro Bowl selection, he ranks third all-time in both categories.

He has won four Super Bowl rings: three with the Patriots and one with Indianapolis.
