T.J. Yates has torn ACL, is out for season

NFL, Houston Texans

Houston Texans quarterback T.J. Yates has a torn ACL in his left knee and is out for the season, coach Bill O'Brien said Monday.

Yates suffered the injury in Sunday's victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

Tests conducted Monday confirmed Yates' injury.

Yates fell to the turf and immediately grabbed his left knee despite being untouched in the second quarter of Sunday's game. He was replaced by third-string QB Brandon Weeden, who passed for 105 yards and a touchdown to lead Houston to victory.

The Texans (7-7), who now lead the Colts (6-8) for first place in the AFC South, have used four different quarterbacks this season -- Yates, Weeden, Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett.

O'Brien said Monday that Hoyer is still in the concussion protocol and will be evaluated by independent doctors this week.

Of Hoyer's availability for Sunday at Tennessee, O'Brien said, "I think we will know something better probably after [Tuesday]."

O'Brien also said the Texans have signed B.J. Daniels, who can play both quarterback and wide receiver, to take Yates' roster spot.
