Texans QB Brian Hoyer ruled out Sunday due to concussion

NFL, Houston Texans

HOUSTON -- Brian Hoyer will not play in Sunday's game in Indianapolis, Texans coach Bill O'Brien said Wednesday.

Hoyer suffered a concussion this past Sunday night during the Texans' 27-6 loss to the Patriots. It was his second concussion in the span of less than one month. He suffered a concussion against the Bengals on Nov. 16 during "Monday Night Football."

This concussion is the fifth of Hoyer's football career. He suffered one in high school, one in college and one during his rookie year in the NFL.

T.J. Yates will start against the Colts as the Texans attempt to beat the Colts on the road for the first time in franchise history.

Yates entered both games against the Bengals and the Patriots in relief of Hoyer. He also started against the Jets on Nov. 22. This season Yates has completed 22 of 47 attempts for 302 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He's been sacked three times and lost one fumble.

Yates was originally a fifth-round draft pick by the Texans in 2011. He was pressed into service that year, too, when the Texans lost starter Matt Schaub and backup Matt Leinart to injuries.

Yates led the Texans to their first playoff berth and also their first playoff win.
