UConn remains in No. 1 overall spot, NC State and DePaul new to list

Women's College Basketball, Connecticut Huskies, Baylor Lady Bears, South Carolina Gamecocks, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Florida State Seminoles, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oregon State Beavers, Stanford Cardinal, Maryland Terrapins, Washington Huskies, Texas Longhorns, Duke Blue Devils, Louisville Cardinals, UCLA Bruins, NC State Wolfpack, DePaul Blue Demons

The four No. 1 seeds as projected by the NCAA women's basketball committee haven't changed since the first "reveal" of the top 16 on Jan. 23. But there are two new teams on the list in Monday's latest reveal.

Undefeated UConn, which has won 97 consecutive games, remains in the No. 1 overall spot. The other top seeds are No. 2 Baylor, No. 3 South Carolina and No. 4 Mississippi State. The Gamecocks were upset on Jan. 30 at home by Tennessee 76-74, but the loss didn't impact South Carolina's seeding.

The Gamecocks also have a loss to Duke, which like Tennessee was unranked at that time. But they remain ahead of the Bulldogs, whose only loss came at South Carolina on Jan. 23. Baylor's only loss came Nov. 17 at UConn.

The rest of the seedings after the top four were: 5. Florida State, 6. Notre Dame, 7. Oregon State, 8. Stanford, 9. Maryland, 10. Washington, 11. Texas, 12. Duke, 13. Louisville, 14. UCLA, 15. NC State, 16. DePaul.

NC State and DePaul are the two new teams on the list. The Wolfpack are 17-6 overall and 7-3 in the ACC, but they have wins over Notre Dame, Florida State, Duke and Louisville, who are all among the top-16 seeds. At five, the ACC has the most teams on the current list. The Blue Demons, who lead the Big East at 12-1, have nonconference losses to UConn, Baylor and Notre Dame.

Kentucky and Arizona State fell out of the top 16. The Wildcats have lost twice since the Jan. 23 reveal; the Sun Devils have lost three times.

Likely the most discussed seeding is still Maryland, which remains at No. 9. The Terrapins' only loss was to UConn, and they are third in the latest Associated Press poll. But the Big Ten's lower profile has weighed down Maryland. The Terps are the only Big Ten team among the top-16 seeds.

The committee's third and final reveal will be Feb. 20. The NCAA selection show will be held on March 13 (ESPN, 7 p.m. ET).

The top-16 seeds will host the early rounds of the NCAA tournament, provided they don't have a scheduling conflict with their facility. The early rounds will run March 17-20. The regionals will be March 24-27 and held in Bridgeport, Connecticut; Lexington, Kentucky; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Stockton, California.

The Final Four will be played in Dallas on March 31 through April 2.
