STANFORD, Calif. (AP) -- With her 500th victory already in her
pocket, Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer wasted no time getting No.
501.
Enjoli Izidor scored 17 points and six of her teammates scored
in double figures as the Cardinal (No. 22 ESPN/USA Today, No. 17 Associated Press) overran previously
unbeaten San Francisco 92-66 Tuesday.
Stanford improved its season mark to 4-1, while USF fell to 2-1.
Izidor scored 15 of her points in the second half, but most of
those were recorded after the main damage had been done by teammate Nicole Powell.
The 6-foot-2 freshman guard, who scored 26 points two days ago against Pacific, was directly responsible for 13 consecutive
Cardinal points at the outset of the second half.
The Cardinal had taken a tenuous 37-33 halftime lead against the hustling San Francisco team, but Powell scored nine consecutive points and then assisted on four others as her team sped to a 52-38 lead at the 16:20 mark of the second half.
Stanford increased its advantage to as many as 29 points in the
final period, at one point holding the Dons to one basket in a
span of 6:04.
VanDerveer, who has been coaching at Stanford since 1986, picked
up her 500th victory Sunday in a 73-65 triumph over against Pacific.
Powell finished with 12 points, Carolyn Moos had 11 and four
other teammates had 10.
Melanie Turner was 4-for-7 from the 3-point range for the Dons and led all scorers with 19. Kim Whisler had 16, and Lindsey
Huff added 10 for San Francisco.
