BOX SCORE
AMES, Iowa (AP) -- Iowa State regained its outside shooting touch and Eastern Illinois paid the price. The eighth-ranked Cyclones shot 12-for-23 from 3-point range and routed Eastern Illinois 84-46 Sunday. Iowa State's long-distance range returned after a 2-for-17 performance from beyond the arc in its opener against Iowa. "That's the way shooters are," Iowa State coach Bill Fennelly said. "The Iowa game, I would say only two (3-point attempts) were really, really contested. The other ones were good shots. They just didn't go down. Tonight, they went in. We've got some kids who are kind of streaky." Megan Taylor and Erica Junod each scored 18 points for Iowa State, which scored on nine of its first 13 possessions en route to a 20-6 lead. Eastern Illinois (1-2) never got closer than 10 points. Taylor made her first four shots, including three 3-pointers. "Once you hit your first shot, that helps a lot," said Taylor, who was 0-for-4 on 3-pointers against Iowa. "It makes the hoop look bigger. It makes a huge difference making that first shot, even if it's just a layup." Erica Haugen and Angie Welle each added nine points for the Cyclones. Tracy Gahan and Holly Bordewyk each scored seven. Gahan grabbed 14 rebounds for the second consecutive game to lead Iowa State's 43-24 advantage on the boards. Welle and Gahan had combined for 53 points against Iowa. Their scoring wasn't needed this time. "The last game, everybody wanted to talk about Tracy and Angie," Fennelly said. "The thing that encouraged me about this game was it was totally different names. Tomorrow, everybody will write about Megan and Erica Junod. "That's the way we need to play to be good at the level we want to be good at. If we can get them all playing well, we've got a chance to be pretty good." Pam O'Connor's 14 points led Eastern Illinois, which shot 31.5 percent from the field. Iowa State used a 17-2 run to open a 37-12 lead with five minutes left in the first half. The Cyclones led 43-18 at halftime and were up by as many as 43 points in the second half. Taylor had 13 points in the first half, including 11 in the first 6:16. | ALSO SEE Womens College Basketball Scoreboard
