SYRACUSE, New York (Ticker) -- LaQuanda Darksdale scored 23 poitns and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead No. 25 North Carolina to an 81-68 victory over Syracuse. Freshman Coretta Brown also had 23 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out nine assists and Juana Brown chipped in 12 points for the Tar Heels, who finished their tour of upstate New York with a 1-1 record. They opened the season with a 95-89 loss at Buffalo on Friday. Beth Record recorded her second straight double-double for Syracuse (1-1) with 28 points and 13 rebounds. Leaf Newman contributed 12 points and nine rebounds but turned the ball over seven times. The Orangewomen held a 38-34 lead at halftime but shot just 26 percent (9-for-34) in the second half, going 1-for-12 from 3-point range.
