Everybody starts the season undefeated. But the cruel reality of college football is that only a handful of those teams have a legitimate chance of winning the 2017 College Football Playoff. The Kansas State Wildcats return 14 starters from last year's nine-win team. When that is combined with a favorable schedule according to ESPN's Football Power Index, it would seem that the Wildcats have a legitimate claim to being a sleeper CFP contender in 2017. That view is seeing things through Royal Purple-tinted glasses. The reality of the situation is there are many reasons Kansas State will not make the CFP this season.
